Karen G. Lessin, B.A., M.B.A., Chief Executive Officer and Compliance Officer

Karen G. Lessin serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Chief Executive and Compliance Officer. She is the former Senior Vice President for Audit, Compliance, Risk Management, and HIPAA Privacy of Independence Blue Cross, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a $10 billion company. During her 28 year tenure, she created and managed a multi-functional, integrated, corporate and IT audit, compliance and anti-fraud department. She implemented and directed HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid and organization-wide compliance programs. She has also served on the Boards of the Support Center for Child Advocates, Philadelphia Council for College and Career Success, The Enterprise Center, and Leadership Philadelphia.

Stuart R. Lessin, M.D., Medical Director

Stuart R. Lessin, M.D. serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Medical Director. He is a board certified dermatologist with over 25 years of laboratory and clinical research experience including topical drug development and testing; from IND to NDA submission. Trained in molecular biology, he has developed techniques for molecular diagnosis of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and T-cell mediated skin diseases. He is the former Director of Dermatology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During his 10 year tenure he created and directed clinical care programs in skin cancer, chemotherapy-associated skin toxicities and wound care along with a clinical trial program testing topical therapies for skin cancer treatment, prevention and supportive oncology. He currently serves on the Boards of the Dermatology Foundation and the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation.

Susan C. Taylor, M.D., Senior Consultant

Susan C. Taylor, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Senior Consultant. She is board certified in internal medicine and dermatology and has over 25 years of clinical research experience in topical drug development and testing and clinical care and education in dermatologic health of diverse populations. She is the Founding Director of the Skin of Color Center at St. Luke’s Hospital Center in New York, the first of its kind in the nation. During her 15 year tenure she created and directed clinical care programs providing individualized and culturally sensitive care to individuals of African, Hispanic, and Asian ancestry and lead a clinical trial program focused on advancing understanding of diseases affecting skin of color. She provides expertise in safety and efficacy studies involving ethnically diverse populations.

James J. Leyden, M.D., Senior Consultant

James J. Leyden, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Senior Consultant. He is a board certified dermatologist with over 40 years of clinical care and research experience. An internationally recognized expert in cutaneous microbiology, his research has encompassed a wide range of clinical problems including bacterial and fungal infections, acne, aging and photoaging, pre-clinical safety testing and developing methodologies for in-vivo evaluation of anti-microbial effects.  More basic interests have included mechanisms of inflammation in acne, bacterial taxonomy and bacterial production of body odors. He is a former principle of KGL, Inc. During his tenure, he served as an industry leader in the development and testing of nearly every major class of skin care compounds, products and drugs including antibiotics, antifungals, retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, sunscreens, cleansers, shampoos, moisturizers antiperspirants/ deodorants and disposable diapers. He is Emeritus Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania and has served on the Boards of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation.

Kays H. Kaidbey, M.D., Senior Consultant

Kays H. Kaidbey, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Senior Consultant. He is a board certified dermatologist with over 40 years of laboratory and clinical research experience. An internationally recognized expert in the photobiology, his work defining methods of assessing topical steroids, sunscreens, photosensitization, photoallergy and ultraviolet-A immediate pigment darkening, has contributed to the establishment of many of the current standards of safety testing of skin care products. He created and directed clinical care programs in phototherapy, psoriasis and photosensitivity at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former principle of KGL, Inc. During his tenure, he served as Medical Director and as an industry leader in safety testing of skin care compounds, products and drugs.

Lynda I. Bard, D.M.D., Consultant

Lynda I. Bard, D.M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Consultant. She is a board certified dentist and has over 15 years of clinical care experience in dentistry. She provides expertise in dentistry for all safety and efficacy studies involving dental and mouth care products.

Jack M. Becker, M.D., Consultant

Jack M. Becker, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Consultant. He has been board certified in pediatrics and is currently board certified in allergy & immunology. He has over 25 years of clinical care and clinical research experience in pediatrics and allergy. He provides expertise in pediatrics and allergy testing for all safety and efficacy studies involving pediatric populations.

Richard E. Naids, M.D., Consultant

Richard E. Naids, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Consultant. He is a board certified ophthalmologist and has over 25 years of clinical care and clinical research experience in ophthalmology. He provides expertise in ocular safety and efficacy testing involving ophthalmologic and eye care products.

Lisa S. Rosen, M.D., Consultant

Lisa s. Rosen, M.D. serves as a KGL Skin Study Center Consultant. She is board certified in obstetrics & gynecology and has over 20 years of clinical care experience in OB/GYN. She provides expertise in all safety and efficacy testing involving feminine-care products.

Michelle C. Golding, M.A. CCRC, Managing Director of Clinical Research

Michelle C. Golding serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Managing Director of Clinical Research. Michelle was recently certified as a CCRC through ACRP.  She has training in microbiology and immunology with over seven years of experience in laboratory and clinical research including human studies coordination, management and audit. She directs the operations of all KGL clinical trials.

Melanie Chappell, B.S., Database Coordinator & Chief Microbiology Lab Technician

Melanie Chappell serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Database Coordinator. She has over fifteen years of laboratory and clinical research experience. She coordinates database entry and queries for study recruitment and performs patch testing and grading. She also serves as Chief Microbiology Lab Technician for dermatopharmacology studies.

John Chicchi, Laboratory Director

John Chicchi serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Laboratory Director. He has over forty-five years experience in clinical research as an expert grader. He directs safety, dermatotoxicology and dermatopharmacology studies.

Elisa D’Angelo, Research Assistant

Elisa D’Angelo serves as a Research Assistant with over eight years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including data collection, data entry and quality control.  

Jennifer Garafolo, Research Assistant

Jennifer Garafolo serves as a Research Assistant with over eight years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including photography, data collection, data entry and quality control.

Linda Haid, Research Lab Technician and Research Assistant

Linda Haid serves as a Research Lab Technician and Research Assistant. She has over five years clinical research experience. She performs patch testing and grading and provides clinical trial support including scheduling and data collection.

Sara K. Kelly, CMA, Clinical Research Coordinator

Sara K. Kelly serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Clinical Research Coordinator. She is a certified medical assistant with over 10 years of clinical experience in dermatology, aesthetics and skin care along with clinical research experience in dermatology as well as a certified phlebotomist.  She coordinates the operation of all KGL clinical trials.

Anthony Locascio, M.A., Clinical Data Analyst

Anthony Locascio serves as a Clinical Data Analyst with over 10 years of information technology experience and provides clinical trial support including internal data management and administration and IT design and support of clinical data collection and reporting systems.

Bernadette Lonergan, Research Assistant

Bernadette Lonergan serves as a Research Assistant with over fifteen years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including recruitment, scheduling and data collection.

Mary J. Massing, Research Account Executive

Mary J. Massing serves as KGL Skin Study Center’s Account Executive. She has over thirty years experience in clinical research administration and clinical research including patch testing and grading. She directs and maintains client relations regarding pre-study planning, study conduct and reporting.

Marie Windle, Research Assistant

Marie Windle serves as a Research Assistant with over ten years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including recruitment and scheduling.

Sheri FitzGerald, Research Assistant

Sheri Fitzgerald serves as a Research Assistant with over fifteen years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including recruitment, scheduling and data collection.

Alison Pressman, Research Assistant

Alison Pressman serves as a Research Assistant with two years of clinical research experience and provides clinical trial support including data collection, data entry and quality control.  Alison is also a certified phlebotomist.
